Winchester Grange held a very successful Baked Potato Dinner on March 15 with many friends, neighbors and Grangers turning out for our first attempt at this type of event. Thank you to the members of Riverton and Wallingford Granges who came out in large numbers to support us. It is appreciated.
At our March 25 meeting we finalized plans for projects around the hall. We accepted a bid from one contractor to replace all eight windows in the dining room and kitchen. The current windows are very old storm windows on the outside with very cumbersome 8 pane window inserts on the inside that have to be removed in the spring and re-installed in the fall. Needless to say, efficiency has nothing to do with these windows.
Recently, our President went to the hall to check on things and the front door actually dropped from its jam, making it almost impossible to close/lock the door. Temporary repairs were made while we gathered quotes for a replacement. The quotes are in and we are moving forward with a quote for new doors and hardware to replace the 30+ year old doors we have now.
Our project to remove the oval window on the pediment above the front door will be moving forward once we receive an updated quote from the contractor. Plans still call for the window to be removed and the hole to be filled in and sided over. In the place of the window should be a Grange seal. We’ll update you all as the projects move long.
