We continue to mourn the loss of former Riverton Grange and Mountain Laurel Pomona Grange President Mark Leonard Prelli. Brother Mark had a tremendous impact on our Grange and region and will be greatly missed.
Despite this tremendous loss, Riverton Grange members have been super busy with a number of impactful community service activities. TEN of our members attended the 156th Annual National Grange Convention in Niagara Falls where our Grange was named both an Honor Grange and a Golden Grange in Action. Members brought items to National Grange for their homeless service project.
On Thanksgiving Day, members Judy Doyle, Chris Wright, Raine Pedersen, Natalee and Dave Roberts delivered 39 homecooked meals to neighbors in need. On November 25th, over 50 veterans and their guests were served a complimentary ham dinner prepared by Grange members at the Barkhamsted Senior Center for our Annual Veterans Appreciation Event co-chaired by Lecturer Raine Pedersen. Over
$1,000 was raised and donations were made to both the Riverton American Legion Post #159 and Barkhamsted Senior Center.
On November 26th, over 2,000 used American Flags were retired by 30+ volunteers in our 6th biannual American Flag Retirement Ceremony with support from Riverton American Legion Post #159 and Granby American Legion Post #182. On December 1-2, Riverton Grange hosted its annual Tree Festival in conjunction with Christmas in Riverton chaired by Sister Dawn Anstett. Over $750 was raised for the Pleasant Valley Community Food Bank and over 100 pounds of non-perishable food items. Our new Veterans Exhibit was on display during the Tree Festival and received rave reviews from attendees. Finally, Riverton Grange worked with the Riverton and Barkhamsted Lions Clubs on Project Amazon to distribute items to over a dozen separate non-profits in our area including Pleasant Valley Food Bank, Barkhamsted Senior Center, Riverton Vol. Fire Department, Barkhamsted Elementary School, and Waste Not Want Not.
