FEBRUARY 2009 -- Why I Joined The Grange… by Norman Stitham, Old Lyme Grange .. This is the 3rd Place Winner in our Essay Contest. “My wife and I moved to Old Lyme and wanted to be in an organization involved in the community and charitable works. Norm Emerson extolled the virtues of the Grange. After our first visit, we were impressed with the many programs offered by the Grange. We joined and are involved.” While you are spending more time inside during the long winter days, why not write your essay for 2009. This year’s title is “What The Grange Means To Me”. Once you get started, the hardest part is going to be limiting yourself to 100 words. But, look at the bright side – The last few years it has only been 50 words. Think about it. What does the Grange mean? Is it the friendships, the programs, the community service work or as one of our Grangers once stated “If I had know that Grangers were such good cooks, I would have joined a long time ago.” Next month I should have all the details on this year’s Lecturers Conference. The conference Theme is “Let’s Celebrate” and Connecticut will be celebrating Halloween. I have a few things lined up, but I’m waiting until after Leaders Conference to start putting everything together. After that they can’t change it. Have a Happy Valentines Day and stay safe if the weatherman gives us more of that white stuff. |
