MAY 3, 2015 -- Greetings from Ekonk Community Junior Grange! We had a very busy March. We held a very successful Spaghetti Supper, donating $368.14 to two “Animal Therapy” Organizations (Tufts Paws for People & Hope AACR). They both came (with trained, beautiful dogs) and put on a wonderful program.
A big hit! Shout out to Sue Gray, who made the scrumptious sauce and to her grandsons, Jared Gervais & Russell Sharpe (ages 9 & 8), who, under her supervision, made the delicious meatballs (with the hamburger donated by Chuck Thurlow). Brother Thurlow also donated all of the pasta and sauce ingredients. Thanks also to Beverly Bessette who donated all of the salad. Without these generous folks, the profits would not have been nearly as high!
The Junior Grange had a table at the Power Lifting Competition held in Sterling. We sold gatoraid, protein bars, granola bars and baked goods. Special thanks to Paula and Natasha Ignacio who spent HOURS manning our table! We went on our annual Maple Sugar Tour. For the second year in a row, we went to the Sweet Farm in Voluntown. Both years, Tom and Tom (father & son) allowed us to drill and tap the trees. The kids have a great time with this “hands on” activity. We also learn a lot about maple syrup and the process of harvesting the sap. After the tour, we went back to the Grange Hall for an awesome meal of French toast, home fries, bacon and sausage and REAL maple syrup donated by the Sweets! Special thanks to Jack & Patty Cottrell (Richmond, RI Grange friends), Jim & Verna Cole and Russell & Sue Gray for preparing the great meal! Juniors and their parents (and two Easter Bunnies) visited a Convalescent Home, bringing homemade Easter decorations and candies to the residents. I am sure those costumes were VERY warm, especially inside the Home! Looking forward to our annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale on May 9th from 9am-2pm. Visit us any first Friday at 6:00 p.m. |
