Let's Celebrate Day a Success

  OCTOBER 2007 --

We had a great “Let’s Celebrate Day!” on August 25, 2007 in Glastonbury.  In spite of a very hot day, all the state Lecturer’s and CWA contests were judged in the cool of the Good Will Grange Hall.  The entries made for a beautiful display for all to see prior to a delightful program presented by State Lecturer Marge Bernhardt and State W.A. Committee Director Betty Jane Gardiner.  Junior Director Joan Perry did a brisk business serving hot dogs, chips, soda and fresh peaches during the lunch time.  Refreshments followed the evening program, entries were returned and our First Celebration Day came to a close!  The CWA awards were as follows:
   
Craft Contest- Items Featuring a Chair or Music:

Baking Contest: 

My Favorite Bars:  1- Nancy Coulombe, Hillstown (Cream Cheese Bars); 2- Doris Johnson, Old Lyme (Double Blueberry Streusel Bars); 3- Robert Palen, Simsbury (Paula Deen’s Lemon Bars); Honorable Mention- Ruth Hickcox, Norfield (Chocolate Mint Brownies).

Our congratulations to all of our winners.  The first place needlework winners represented CT at the New England Needlework Judging at the Big E in West Springfield on Sept. 14.  Those results will be announced later.
   
Many thanks to everyone who entered and supported our contests, participated in the program or provided refreshments.  We appreciate the efforts of the Subordinate and Pomona Chairmen in securing entries and judges.  We welcome your thoughts and suggestions on how we can improve next year’s event.  Feel free to contact any of the State CWA or State Lecturer, Marge Bernhardt.
