SEPTEMBER 11, 2013 -- Vera C. (Ott) Nosal, 90, of Fairfield, beloved wife of 68 years of Frank M. Nosal, died peacefully, with her loving family by her side, September 4, following a brief illness. Born October 16, 1922, in Ridgeley, W.V., she was the daughter of Catherine (Fisher) and James Ott.
In addition to her husband, her children and spouses, Robert and Amy Nosal of Newtown, Frank Nosal, Jr, and Diane of Wake Forest, N.C., James and Janet Nosal of Fairfield, Penn., Mary and Tom Graham-Gracewski of Broad Brook, Patricia and Robert Birmingham of Monroe, and Nancy and Erik Olofson of Bridgeport; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild survive Mrs Nosal. She also leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Mildred Watson of South Carolina.
She joined the US Navy in 1942, where she was an aircraft mechanic. It was in the service where she met her husband. After serving their country, they settled in Connecticut and raised their six children. Among other clubs and offices she held, Mrs Nosal served as the first female chairperson of the Fairfield Memorial Day Parade, was a life member and first woman commander of American Legion Post 74, and was master of the Greenfield Hill Grange.
Mrs Nosal was a member of First Church Congregational in Fairfield where she volunteered at “The Store” for many years.
The family would like to express their thanks to New England Home Care, Caring Hospice, and friends who helped them take care of Mrs Nosal during her illness.
Funeral services took place September 9. Interment with military honors was in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield.
