| FEBRUARY 21, 2011 -- The Halcyon Grange in Blue Hill, Maine, has given its full support to an effort led by area farmers to enact local laws in four towns that would protect farming.
At a meeting on Feb. 4, Grange members unanimously approved a resolution that will be sent to the National Grange.
The resolution supports efforts to enact a local food and self-governing ordinance in Blue Hill, Sedgwick, Brooksville and Penobscot.
Supporters expect the proposed ordinance to go before voters at the upcoming annual Town Meeting in each town.
The resolution states that members of Halcyon Grange invoke their rights under the 10th Amendment and “reject such federal and state of Maine decrees, statutes, regulations or corporate practices that threaten our basic human right to save seed, grow, process, consume and exchange food and farm products within the state of Maine.”
The resolution further states that Grange members will resist infringement upon those rights and that they support the local ordinances proposed in each of the four towns. |
