May 2023 News from Granby Grange No. 5

By Dave Roberts

  MAY 11, 2023 --

May 14 (Sun.): Join us to experience the excitement at Granby Grange with our 31 new members. Refreshments will be served 30 minutes before the meeting and immediately following the meeting.

A large crowd attended our Sunday, April 16, Granby Grange Membership Meeting. President Ron Cowdrey participated remotely due to his home recuperation. Vice President Philip Marshall chaired the meeting at the Grange Hall. Our special guest was Andrew Hurczyn, Founder and Operator of Addison Farm in Granby who talked about “Hemp farming”. This summer, the Grange plans a field trip to his nearby farm to see hemp farming up close and personal. Granby Grange member and CT State Representative Mark Anderson shared pending legislation known as House Bill No. 6697 which could be harmful to hemp farmers. Granby Grange appointed a Special Committee of President Ron Cowdrey, Vice President Philip Marshall, and Executive Committee Chair Dave Roberts to work with Andrew Hurczyn and Mark Anderson as needed to provide our local Grange position.

Since our membership revitalization campaign began, Granby Grange appreciates all who have donated to help our Grange get back on its feet. We are still seeking donations made payable to Granby Grange, and mailed to Treasurer Carol Innes, 115 Wells Road, Granby, CT 06035.

When you come visit us at the historic Granby Grange hall, walk around the outside and view all the wonderful maintenance work that members have been accomplished cutting down trees which were damaging the building, removing vines and obsolete items, and clearing brush and trash from the property. So much is happening at Granby Grange under the leadership of President Ron Cowdrey and his team!
