On Sat., May 7th the Grange held its 7th Annual Barn Dance & Dinner postponed from January due to the up-tick in cases of the Omicron variant across Connecticut. A good time was had by all who attended. The infamous & renowned caller Billy Fischer was accompanied by live music played by Bill Walach on mandolin and Gary Wikfors playing the guitar. Due to the rainy weather the bonfire was canceled so sadly no marshmallows for the kids. We added a new twist for the event and entertained the guests by airing the Kentucky Derby Race during the yummy chili dinner. This event will be moved back to its traditional time- frame in January 2023 due to spring being such a busy time of year. At our Grange meeting on May 10th the Norfield members and officers interviewed the two finalists for the high school scholarship we award to one graduating senior to use towards furthering their educational goals & pursuits. Due to the depth of their resumes, volunteerism beginning as young as elementary school and the enthusiastic personalities it was decided to award one full scholarship of $500 to J. E. Gladstone and an “honorable mention’’ partial scholarship of $200 to L. C. Pinals both from Weston. By the time this article is in print on May 21st (hopefully it doesn’t rain and need to be postponed to the 22nd) we will have hosted our 10th Annual Pop- Up Sale for Artisans, Estate & Tag Sale items and anything in between. And the President of the local high school music honor society K. Schulz will have volunteers playing music during the entire Pop Up event At our June meeting we will host a BBQ and honor our two scholarship recipients.
