August 14, 2018 -- As you are reading this, visualize us preparing for our own Fair (Sat., August 11th), helping Richmond Grange at Washington County Fair (Aug. 15-19) and running our Ekonk booth at Brooklyn Fair (Aug. 23-26)! We sent two Juniors to Camp Berger as CIT’s (Victoria and Evelyn). If you visit our Grange, you cannot help but admire our new, improved driveway; expensive but so much improved and offering more parking too.
Our Judge of Probate, Andrea Truppa, did an excellent program at our July 2nd meeting, answering numerous questions and educating us as well as several from the public about Probate, Wills, Living Wills, etc. She also spends much time helping with children’s issues, which she is passionate about and shared what help Probate Court can provide.
We are collecting travel size “personal items” for both men and women veterans; Jody and Jodi Ann Cameron will be taking these to National Grange where they will be combined with donations from other states and distributed. The Veterans Home in Jewett City was most appreciative of the almost $1,000.00 donation from our Roast Beef Supper.
August 3rd we will be joining Richmond Grange at Larkin’s Pond in West Kingston for a picnic, swimming and fellowship with great friends! Two Juniors (Lillian Sharpe and Connor Sebastian), winners of 7th and 8th grade Patriotic Essay contest, were invited to march in the Town of Groton 4th of July Parade by our State Senator, Heather Somers. Senator Somers had come to Sterling to present them with citations from the General Assembly in honor of their achievement. They also enjoyed a day at the State capitol as her guest and marched with her in Groton as “Junior Senators”.
August will also find Granger’s, Karolyn Card and Ethan Jordan marrying and a Jack & Jill for Past President, Katie Molodich and her fiancé Tom Sweet Jr. Colin Sebastian, another Ekonk member, will be marrying his College sweetheart, Carly, in August as well. All of these young people are Granger’s in their 20’s: “Love is in the air” and we all wish them all of the best!
