June News from Oxford Grange

By Robert Buck

  June 14, 2017 --

June 2: Election of Officers (2 year terms)

June 16: Painting Party Now that the fund raising is done for the handicapped ramp, and hopefully construction has started by the time this goes to press, we should soon see this project completed for the betterment of the Oxford Grange. Our Third Annual Chili Cook-Off in April was wildly successful and raised over $600.00. Thanks to all our supporters and helpers who worked, cooked chili, and brought food to share. Donations received and earmarked for the ramp total almost $1700.00.

We still hold occasional open mic programs, but the newest entertainment project the Grange has become involved in is called G.O.M.A.D., short for Grange of Oxford Music and Dance Party. It is a continuation of B.E.M.A.D., started years ago by dance caller Billy Fischer of Bethany. It is held the last Friday of every month 7:30 PM, and goes to about 11:00 PM. Attendance has been impressive, and interest in the Grange inspiring. Almost $250.00 in donations to the Grange were made at the event in March, and many were asking how they can help the Grange.

In May on the weekend of the 19th-21st, the Grange once again hosted part of the Oxford Cultural Arts Commission’s Festival of Arts, Culture, and Entertainment. This is a long running weekend long festival highlighting the visual arts, music, poetry, and comedy. The participants are first rate entertainers, the art show at Stephen Church Memorial Town Hall is spectacular, and the entire event quite enjoyable. Among the organizers are Commission members and Grangers Dorothy Peebles-Pelley, as well as Karen and Martin Earley.
