June 13, 2017 -- The Bridgewater Grange gave a Community Service Award to Scott Benjamin and the Roxbury Running Club. The award ceremony was on Friday April 28th at 7:30 PM at Saint Marks Church in Bridgewater Connecticut. The Bridgewater Grange meets there for meetings, dinners and special events.
Nancy Macsio and Dean Perry of the Bridgewater Grange awarded the Grange Community Service Award for 2017 to Scott Benjamin. They also presented two public service awards from congresswoman Elizabeth Esty. One was for Scott Benjamin and the other for the Roxbury Running Club. They have done a fine job running a series of 40 something fun runs and races through the years. They also give back to the community. They have donated money to various local high school track and cross country teams. They have helped organize fund raising races for the Cancer Society, research for autism and juvenile diabetes and Lyme Disease Awareness. They also raise money for local park improvements and a local soup kitchen, Loaves and Fishes.
The Roxbury Runners meet at Hurlburt Park in Roxbury every Saturday morning at 8:30 for a fun run/ race series with distances from 2.4 to 11 miles. They also have a half marathon and full marathon in the Fall. |
