October News from Oxford Grange

By Robert Buck

  October 5, 2016 --

Oct. 7: Mystery Ride-Destination TBA

Oct. 20-22: CSG Annual Session/Meeting moved to October 28

Oct. 28: Apple Pie Baking Contest

The Open Mic on Thursday nights has been going well. It was postponed in August due to excessive heat making the hall upstairs quite uncomfortable, but will continued when things cooled down in September. The Pop-Up Market has been a nice addition this past summer. Both the Open Mic and Pop-up Market have gained us some new members, about ten in total.

Due to the generosity of Selectman Jeff Haney donating his labor, the Grange Hall will finally get a handicapped ramp. We have final plans, a materials list, and necessary permits with which to proceed. A generous donation from Oxford Cultural Arts Commission will allow us to start by laying footings this fall for the structure. We are exploring fund raising options to raise the balance to purchase necessary materials for the ramp itself. We hope to complete this project by next spring at the latest depending on funding.

The landscaping and beautification of the grounds by member D. Raye Hodgson continues. The project will combine wild plants and cultivated ones representative of Ceres, Pomona, and Flora.  Plantings are being chosen to fit the environment of the grounds and make it relatively low maintenance.
