Sept 24 – Installation of Officers.

In review:

June 11 – “Planning and Election of Officers”.  One of the programs in October will be titled “Connecticut Tree Challenge on Oct 8th. This program will be presented by Bill Austin, our in-house tree expert.  Some of the topics he will be discussing will be the use of smaller tree species around power lines, home owner vs. town ownership rights and other topics concerning the planting and care of trees around town.

Dan discussed a June 7th article in the Hartford Courant titled “All Veg: Bad for Birds”. What this articled talked about was the myth of a vegetarian chicken.  Some in the general public may be fooled into believing that a chicken that was raised on a strictly vegetarian diet is good thing for them to consume.  What they don’t realize is that a non-supplemented vegetarian diet is not good for chickens.  Chickens are natural omnivores that will eat bugs or small animals if they can get it, forced vegetarianism can be a disaster for the bird since they need essential proteins that can only get from eating bugs, etc.

Janet announced that the fair book has been finalized and has an additional two new ads.

We had election of officers and there were no changes.

June 25 – Meeting was canceled because of scheduling conflicts.

During this week a strong thunderstorm came roaring through Wallingford bringing down a number of medium size branches on our front lawn and was blocking up the front sidewalk.  In the grange’s backyard a whole corner of the property was just full of branches and debris that also damaged a fence that borders our neighbor’s driveway.  Fortunately the hall had no damaged due to this storm.

July 9 – Our Annual Picnic.  We had a beautiful evening.  Vern started the hot dogs and hamburgers early and everyone brought a dish to share.  Bill and Barbara Austin came to join us who we haven’t seen in a while.  Everyone enjoyed the good company and food.

July 25 – Our 2nd Annual Ice Cream Social.  The day was one of the 10 best days of the year.  It was a bright, beautiful sunny warm day.  The social started at Noon but we didn’t get our first customers until a half hour later when a family showed up looking for ice cream.  From then on we had a slow steady stream of people of all kinds who stopped to get some ice cream and would sit down and chat for a while.
