JUNE 6, 2015 -- May was Winchester’s annual Spring Tag Sale month. An overabundance of great tag sale items were available for the event and a decent profit was realized. The leftover articles were donated to the Litchfield County 4H for their annual tag sale in June—so donations to Winchester Grange benefit a couple organizations.
Doing spring cleaning? The St. Pauly Clothing Donation Shed is available to accept your donations anytime. Winchester Grange receives a cash payment of a percentage of the total amount of clothing donated. Clothing, shoes, textiles, curtains, etc. are all accepted. We only ask that you leave off your donations in a TIED plastic bag. Please do not use open shopping bags or boxes as we have to re-bag items that get strewn throughout the shed when deposited in open containers. We thank you for your support!
The Post Office at the Grange is getting a much needed facelift! Beginning at the end of May, a subcontractor for the Postal Service has begun removing the old door and frame and replacing it with a new handicap accessible door along with a very large ramp that will make the post office fully accessible to all. Unfortunately, the Americans with Disabilities Act requires a considerable amount of space dedicated to wheelchair van accessible parking. This means that nearly the entire section of parking lot on the end of the hall that houses the Post Office will be taken up by the ramp and the required paking space. While we are happy that the hall will become ADA compliant, we know there will be some re-training involved with parking at the hall for our events. We ask anyone getting mail or attending Grange events avoid parking in front of the post office, along the driveway leading to the Fire Department or in front of the Fire Dept. doors. There is adequate parking in front of the hall and in the gravel parking lot beyond the fire department.
June will test this parking plan with our annual Strawberry Festival at the hall on Father’s Day, June 21 from 2-5 P.M. Join us for the largest servings of Shortcake around served up by the newly crowned Laurel Queen and her court. It’s a wonderful community activity that is a Winchester Center tradition. Join us!
