APRIL 3, 2015 -- Our plans continue to be underway for our 125th Anniversary Celebration; which probably will be held on a Sunday this late summer or fall. The event will probably be in three sections: 1. History of the Granges as Harmony Grange consists of Far Mill River, Trumbull and some members from Housatonic, association of the Granges with the surrounding towns and its history with the Connecticut State Grange, 2. Entertainment and 3. Food. The celebration will be an open meeting and neighbors will be invited. We will try to make the celebration of interest so that several persons now interested in the Grange and some neighbors will join the Grange.
At our February meeting, the membership voted to obtain estimates on a much needed/long overdue redecorating of the lower level of the Grange, including the dining hall, the kitchen, the stairways and the bathrooms. Also, we were glad to have long time Harmony Grange member and Monroe Historian, Edward Coffey, attend our meeting and give us invaluable insight and suggestions on a variety of topics relating to the history of our Grange and Monroe. Of special interest is the fact that Ed’s wife Marsha ancestor was the first Master of Harmony Grange.
At our March meeting, a member of the Connecticut State Grange Membership Committee (postponed from February) is tentatively scheduled to discuss potential ways to increase our membership and also to let us know if we are eligible to possibly receive any grants to off-set the high cost of making Harmony Grange hall handicap accessible.
