| MARCH 2, 2015 -- Harmony Grange will be having special meetings for the next few months to plan our 125th Anniversary Celebration which we have tentatively scheduled for a Sunday in mid May. In additional to speakers on the history of Harmony Grange and its association with the Town of Monroe and surrounding towns, we are planning on having programs to promote membership. For our February meeting, a member of the State Grange Membership Committee has been invited to speak on obtaining new members. Harmony Grange will also explore how we can get grants to improve our hall. In particular, we would like to make it handicap accessible. This subject was discussed at the State Grange meeting in Glastonbury on February 1.
Our 70 plus year member, Gertrude Wilson is still at Lord Chamberlain Rehabilitation and she has been moved to long term care section. We pray for her to improve so she can join us at our meetings. On January 20, 2015, The USDA Farm Service Agency held three meeting at Harmony Grange. This Agency hosted regional producer education forums to educate and inform producers on the new and revised programs that will be available from the 2014 Farm Bill. The Agency held presentations in 6 Connecticut counties in coordination with UCONN Extension Service. Each location featured a session on the new Agriculture Risk Coverage (County and Individual)/Price Loss Coverage (ARC/PLC) and revised Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP). Several of the local area farmers attended the meetings and they were interested in the Grange and it promotion on agriculture. The Agency wants all producers to know of the new and revised programs and opportunities available to them. NAP protects against crop losses due to weather events and is available to any crop that is not eligible for federal crop insurance.
