Greenfield Hill Grange News for October

By Dennis Rich

  OCTOBER 5, 2014 --

In August, we were busy completing details for our Annual Agricultural Fair as well as continuing our fundraising efforts.  Preliminary results indicate that we have been successful on both fronts.  It would seem that the Fair was a success from a financial standpoint and an increase in exhibits was experienced.  The continued “Songbird” Friday night concerts and positively written appeals to members and neighborhood residents are helping us reach our goal of having sufficient money for painting the exterior of our hall this year.  Last but not least, there was the chicken barbecue dinner coordinated and prepared by Diane and Paul Lytwyn.

Our early September activities consisted of hosting, along with Redding Grange, the Pomona meeting and participating in a Fairfield Public Library program on tomato tasting and seed saving.  It was led by Eric Fisk, our Master.  Besides being a Granger, Eric works with the Seed to Seed Library and the Fairfield Community Garden.

In October, we will be planning our late year activities.  The program will include information on pumpkin growing.  Call (203) 259-3577 for information on their second Saturday in October Pumpkin Festival at Greenfield Farm around the corner on Congress Street.  All of our Grange friends are welcome!
