OCTOBER 5, 2014 -- Rain conspired against for the second summer in a row, forcing our annual picnic to move from Bradway’s Pond to the Grange. It didn’t dampen our spirits, though, or the tastiness of Milo’s homemade maple walnut and vanilla ice cream!
The Grange as a-buzz at our August meeting, as guest speakers Kevin and Cathy Lamberg of Stafford treated us to a lecture about their sweet hobby – bee keeping. August is a busy time for bees and beekeepers alike as late August/early September is harvest time for keepers and storage time for the bees. Bees need 40-60 pounds to winter over in their supers (what those white pine boxes are called). Bees and their keepers need to work especially hard in our area due to the high elevation and short blooming season.
As of this writing, the Stafford Grange will be sharing a booth with the Down to Earth CSA on Farm Day, September 7th. Visitors to the booth will have the chance for some corny hands-on fun making fruit and vegetable prints. So leek the word and come on out to Heritage Park in Stafford on Sunday. A – pear- ently it will be a great time! |
