Jones Family Farms in Shelton will be one of the stops on day-long bus tour of Fairfield County by the Connecticut Farm Bureau Association (CFBA).

The tour will visit three agricultural operations on Saturday, Oct. 4. The other stops are Sepe Farm in Newtown and Norm Bloom & Son in Norwalk, where participants will take a shellfish boat ride on Long Island Sound.

“These three diversified farming operations in the heart of Fairfield County represent many different Connecticut-grown products from land and sea,” said Debbi Tanner, chairman of CFBA Women’s Leadership Committee and coordinator of the event.
“I think our guests will enjoy their visits, and learn a lot about how — and why — Connecticut agriculture works,” Tanner said.

Pick-your-own offerings, winery

The 400-acre Jones Family Farm has a winery and cooking studio as well as pick-your-own pumpkins, strawberries and blueberries and Christmas trees. The farm has been in the Jones family for more than 150 years.

Sepe Farm is a family-owned lamb farm that raises pastured, grain-fed lamb for gourmet restaurants. Norm Bloom and Son is a family-owned operation that has been harvesting Copps Island oysters, clams and lobsters for more than three generations.

Connecticut at Work project

The tour is funded in part by a grant from the Connecticut Humanities Council’s Connecticut at Work project, which examines the past, present and future of work in the lives of Connecticut residents.

The Connecticut Farm Bureau Association is a non-governmental, membership organization that has advocated for agriculture and farm families since 1919.

The cost to attend the CFBA tour is $45, including a Connecticut-grown lunch, dinner and wine tasting. The farm-to-table dinner will take place at the Harmony Grange Hall in Monroe.

The coach bus will depart the Grange Hall, at the intersection of Routes 110 and 111 in Monroe, at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 4. To reserve a space on the tour, go to cfba.org under “Events.”
