Around The Grange
Winchester Grange August Musings

By Todd Gelineau, Winchester Grange President

  AUGUST 1, 2014 --

We are pleased to announce that after a year of “negotiation” we have reached an agreement with the Postal Service on a new lease for the Post Office space in the Grange Hall.  Our new agreement nearly triples the amount of rent we will receive on the space.  The previous rent amount was paltry in light of the expenses the Grange has incurred for heat, electric, maintenance and insurance on the property.  The new agreement will run for 5 years.

Our new Clothing and Shoe Donation Shed from St. Pauly has been highly successful during it’s first few weeks of operation with dozens of bags of donations being left in the shed daily.  A monetary donation (per pound) is given back to the Grange for each donation.  Spread the word—it’s an income that doesn’t require us to do much more than move the donation bags back from the chute on the shed.  The shed also blends in with the architecture of the Grange Hall and Fire Department, unlike the unsightly metal boxes often seen in shopping plazas and parking lots.

Our Grange Fair and Flea Market is scheduled for Saturday, August 9 from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. at the Grange Hall and on the Green in Winchester Center.  Spaces in the Flea Market are still available by calling 860-626-0326 or email info@winchestergrange.org. Join us and see the exhibits, buy some treasures at the flea market and have some delicious food at “Café 74”!

Our annual Community Picnic and Awards Night will be held on the night of our second August meeting.  The Grange will provide the food- just come and join us for a nice summer evening of food and fun while honoring members who have faithfully served our organization.
