August News Update from Ekonk Community Grange

We are busy, energetic and smiling on Ekonk Hill!  Richmond, RI Grangers joined Ekonk Grangers at the Ekonk Hill home of Russell Gray on Sunday, July 6th for a picnic and outdoor games.  A great time was had by all 45 in attendance, ages 4 to 87!  As of last night, we have taken in 12 new members since May 5th; two of those joined by demit from New Hampshire, the remainder are first time Grangers and ALL are YOUNG and filled with enthusiasm-hurrah!  

Our Fair premium books were handed out and plans are finalized for our August 9th, 32nd annual Fair!  The Fair will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a Peach Shortcake supper will be served at 5 p.m.--another BUSY day at the Grange on Ekonk Hill!  The Youth Drill Team thrilled the crowd of Grangers at our July 7th meeting with their skill and expertise.  Deborah Sharpe presented the 2014 Scholarships to Chris Sebastian and Jaimie Cameron.  Katie Molodich led 3 teams in a “Volcanic Game” that had everyone laughing.  It was a wonderful evening!

We are partnering with Putnam Bank (Jewett City) in a fundraiser to help Kenny and Sarah Phaiah.  Kenny suffers from a serious intestinal disease contracted when he was a professional EMT with the city of Norwich.  A chicken barbecue will be served Sunday, August 17th with sittings at 1pm and 3pm.

Our “Float” committee has their plans finalized for the V-J Day Parade in Moosup on August 10th.  This is the only parade in the United States to commemorate “Victory in Japan” day!  Our sympathy to Joan Perry, a regular visitor to Ekonk, who lost her only son, Tom, on the 4th of July.  Special hello to Sue Griffiths, who is home, recovering from surgery. Plan a visit to Ekonk, we are located on scenic highway Route 49.
