Stonington Grange News for April 2014

By Liz Herzig

  APRIL 6, 2014 --

A school of instruction was held at Norwich Grange #174 West Town Street, Norwichtown on Saturday, February 8th. A potluck hosted by North Stonington Grange followed and “Hotel for Dogs” was shown sponsored by New London County Pomona.

Some (local) Connecticut historical trivia:

B.F. Clyde’s Cider Mill is the only steam-powered Cider Mill in the United States and is located in Mystic.

Originally, Montville, along with Groton and Waterford, was a part of New London. New London was settled in 1646 under the name of Pequot, so called after the Pequot Indians, the name changing to New London in 1658.

Connecticut’s most important crops are dairy, poultry, forest and nursery, tobacco, vegetables and fruit.

Stonington Grange #168 splintered off from North Stonington Grange #138

North Stonington was incorporated in 1807.

KEEP WARM EVERYONE!
