FEBRUARY 12, 2014 -- Hillstown Grange is holding a Going Green Garden talk and Dinner event on Thursday, February 27. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for our homemade Chief Salad and soup dinner featuring local greenhouse lettuce and home made soups. Following at 7:00 p.m. a presentation on Aquaponic farming focusing resources on environmentally sustainable healthy and good food.
Aquaponics gardening uses fish to grow plants in a sustainable, closed-loop garden. It offers greater yields for less input, easy enough for any level gardener. Come and meet a new breed of young farmers who have just started the Fresh Farm Aquaponics, LLC, farm in Glastonbury who will discuss their experiences and talk about how to start aquaponics on a smaller scale for home gardeners.
The Agricultural Committee has free seeds available for this year’s special gardening contests. Also a gardening discussion with question and answer time will follow giving all gardeners a chance to talk and dream about our 2014 gardens. Remember, in less than a month we can plant our peas!
The Hillstown Grange is located at 617 Hills Street, East Hartford, CT. Located in the Hillstown corner of East Hartford, Glastonbury, and Manchester since 1888. The Grange is the oldest Agricultural group in the United States.
This is a free event, so come spend some time with fellow gardeners and enjoy some homemade salad and soup.
