North Stonington Community Grange News for January 2014

By Nancy R. Weissmuller

  JANUARY 4, 2014 --

We provided a hearty Thanksgiving dinner to eight needy North Stonington families in November.  Our mitten tree is up.  We will be collecting hats and mittens for the next couple of months, so be sure to bring some for the tree when you come to a meeting.

Cheree Anne Miner was installed as a member of our Executive Committee at our November 8 meeting.  That same evening Chris Pianta treated us to an interesting program on Greenwall Systems.

On Nov. 22 we voted to update our old men’s room with modern plumbing and a new floor.  We will also replace our kitchen floor and look into a more modern sink.  Our program for the evening, on special events in the month of September, convinced us we should have paid more attention in our High School Social Studies classes.

Our January programs sound very interesting.  The first will be on raising silk worms and silk spinning.  The second will present the experiences of a senior pyrotechnician with Grucci Fireworks.  And if the little downy woodpecker who spent an hour with me on Thanksgiving will just keep from bopping into my window, next time I’ll tell you all about delicious December.

Jan. 24:  “To Get A Charge Out of”
