Riverton Grange hosts community Festival of Trees

By Dawn Anstett

  JANUARY 4, 2014 --

During the recent Christmas in Riverton festivities, the Barkhamsted Recreation Commission held its annual Christmas Craft Workshop at the Festival of Trees which was hosted by the Riverton Grange. Children were able to create 3 different ornaments while listening to Christmas carols, enjoying refreshments and viewing trees provided by local organizations and businesses.

The winner of the best dressed tree contest was Denise Wells for The Catnip Mouse Tea room. Despite the weather, the contest enabled the collection of 75 lbs of food and conversion of monetary donations to $235 in grocery gift cards to benefit the Community Foodbank located in the United Methodist Church of Pleasant Valley.

The Riverton Grange would like to thank White Flower Farm in Litchfield for their donation of decorations and the following organizations for their participation in this year’s tree contest: Barkhamsted Women’s Club, Immaculate Conception Parish, Barkhamsted Historical Society, Barkhamsted Conservation Commission, Barkhamsted Girl Scout Troops, Barkhamsted Boy Scout Pack 40, Barkhamsted Tiger Scouts, Mindy Henry Day Care, Riverton Congregational Church, and The Catnip Mouse Tea Room.
