Norfield Grange news for November

By Ruth L. Hickcox

  NOVEMBER 1, 2013 --

Space limits our complete list of 2013-2014 officers, but here are a few; it’s a dynamic team!  President/Master, Kevin Parker; Overseer, Randy Miller; Lecturer, Sue Sulla; and Steward, Raymond Poirier.  Special thanks go to Randy Miller, who served us so well as Master these many past years!

We had a picture-perfect Sunday for our 45th Annual Norfield Grange Fair on September 8.  And many, many thanks to all who made it such a memorable day!  Perhaps you will recognize some of our Blue Ribbon Best in Category winners:  Ginger Jespersen, Drawing; Robert Wachtel, Photography; Pamela Bochinski, Collections; Vanessa David, Best Decorated Cupcake in Connecticut; Victoria Eastus, Jams and Jellies; Weston Hurlbutt Elementary School Learning Garden, Best Tomato in Connecticut (Amateur); Smith’s Acres Farm of Niantic, Best Tomato in Connecticut (Farmer); Nora LaFleur, (6 years old!), Cut Flower Arrangement; Roland, Susan and Alison Poirier, Eggs; Pamela Buchinski, Knitting; and last but hardly least, Scott Jacob, Best “Hooch” in Connecticut.

The 45th Agricultural Fair might be history, but our Business Meeting in November isn’t.  And the annual reopening of our 4th Winter Farmers’ Market takes place on November 23.  We deck the halls in December, and before you know it, hello 2014!

Nov. 2:  BBQ and Square Dance

Nov. 12:  Business Meeting

Nov. 23:  Re-Opening 4th Annual Winter Farmers’ Market

Dec. 10:  Deck the Hall & Holiday Cheer

Jan. 14:  Fair Kick-Off and Planning Meeting (Bring at least one can or non-perishable item).
