Ekonk Community Grange News for May

By Sue Gray

  MAY 5, 2013 --

We began Grange Month with a BANG:  Richmond Grange visited in force and brought us a  very funny “play”, featuring Jack & Patty Cottrell at home, arguing over the “remote”.  We saw Clint Eastwood (aka Haven Nelson); Minute to Win it Stars Russell Gray and Link Cooper; and a myriad of other very funny “bits and pieces” as Jack and Patty hit their remotes!  Richmond Master, Haven Nelson (also a Special Deputy-RI) led the Richmond delegation, which also included RI State Master, Steve Logan and his wife, Claire!

Link Cooper continues to amaze us with his ongoing hall improvements!  We now have an extra handrail entering the kitchen; new picture frames grace our walls, the piano stool has been “firmed up” and he installed a large, pull down movie screen in the main hall!

Paulette Craig is a wonderful addition as our (as of today) newest member.  She has already worked two suppers and not missed a meeting!

We have 24 lovely new “Ekonk Community Grange Spirit” aprons to wear at Grange meals and an entire set of updated manuals.

We voted to donate a $25.00 “Gardening” theme basket to “Relay For Life” at the “Carnival For a Cure” at Brooklyn Fairgrounds May 10th-11th and 12th.  Our Grange will be there selling Strawberry Shortcakes and huge cookies!

Our Youth Drill Team had a fantastic Turkey Supper April 6th! An awesome meal was served, complete with apple crisp for dessert; they were disappointed that the profits were only $500.00.   They will put on two breakfasts (April 28th and May 5th) from 8am-10am.  They will serve pancakes, sausages, scrambled eggs and beverages for $6.00 (adults); $3.00 children under 12 and preschoolers will be free.  They are rehearsing every Sunday and we wish them well!

June 8th is our annual Strawberry Supper-yum!  5pm we begin serving!

May 11th plan to purchase your garden vegetable and flower plants, along with beautiful Hanging Baskets for Mothers Day at our annual Plant Sale from 9am-2pm.

May 11th we will also have a Roast Beef Supper-for our treasury this time!

May 6: “Willie Mays!”  Mtg/Prog 7:30 pm

May 11: Roast Beef Supper 5pm-

May 19: Sterling Memorial Day Parade
