Around The Grange
Spring Fling at Weston's Norfield Grange this Saturday

By Weston Forum (3/15/13)

  MARCH 15, 2013 --

Ready for some spring fling? Then head to the Winter Farmers Market at Norfield Grange this Saturday, March 16.

From 10 to 2, celebrate spring by planting some peas. It’s a long-held tradition to plant peas on St. Patrick’s Day (or a day early in this case). Take the peas home to plant in the garden or grow on a windowsill.

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, enter the market’s Favorite Potato Recipe contest. The contest will run from 10 to 1.

Bring your favorite potato dish, using as many Connecticut-grown ingredients as possible, along with the recipe and $10 entry fee (proceeds go to the Norfield Grange Scholarship Fund). Entries will be judged by Vanessa David. The winner will be awarded a spring CSA share from Gazy Brothers Farm ($200 value).

From 1 to 2, join in the Green Teatime Party. Daffodil Hill Growers will feature three green teas. Green tea fare will be served. Make a hat or wear your best — awards will be given to the “Best Adult Hat” and “Best Child’s Hat” (under 18). Feel free to bring your favorite teacup , but don’t worry, there will be extras on hand. There is a cost of $5 per person for tea.

All children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited; so call 203-226-8233 or email NorfieldGrange@gmail.com to make a reservation. Loose Leaf Tea Company will provide tea for the event. Fresh market produce and baked goods will be provided from the market vendors.

The market is open every Saturday through May 4, from 10 to 2 at the Norfield Grange, 12 Good Hill Road, Weston.
