| FEBRUARY 4, 2013 -- State Overseer and State Pomona, Jeff and Debbie Barnes, paid a delightful visit to Ekonk in January and presented President, Katie Molodich, with a check for $400.00; the 1st prize from National Grange for our work in 2012. Sadly, many officers were home sick, or incapacitated, so attendance was down.
Clifford Gervais still had a good program and everyone learned about Brooklyn, CT and American hero, Israel Putnam. Shelley St. Jean won the Superbowl Football challenge by an overwhelming margin (part of Cliffs’ program).
By the time you read this, the 2013 Youth Drill Team will be rehearsing. Chris Sebastian updated everyone on his Grange Pavilion project-as good weather approaches-the pavilion will be tackled. We voted to sponsor a Dr. Seuss Week contest at Sterling Community School with a prize of $100.00 worth of books to the winning class! We took an active part in the Town of Sterling Vigil honoring the memory of those 20 boys and girls and 6 adults who lost their lives in the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Our President made the Memorial Wreath and 180 Memorial ribbons for those attending and our Grange served the donated food, desserts and hot chocolate following the services: a sad, yet meaningful service indeed. We also sent $50.00 towards the fund the State Grange Foundation established to help the families.
Feb. 15th will be our chowder n’ clam cake supper, beginning at 5pm and March 16th corned beef & cabbage-again 5pm starting time.
On April Fools Day, Richmond Grange will pay us a visit and bring us a program! Mark your calendars and join us for a fun night!
