JANUARY 21, 2013 -- Four mayors and four pageant winners will compete in a fundraiser for needy animals.
The event, called "Bowling is for the Dogs: Kingpins vs. Crowns," starts at 6 p.m. Feb. 9 at Wolcott Lanes, 955 Wolcott Road.
In the headlining match, Wolcott Mayor Thomas G. Dunn, Waterbury Mayor Neil M. O'Leary, Bristol Mayor Art Ward and Prospect Mayor Robert J. Chatfield will form a team of "kingpins."
They will challenge Miss Bristol 2012 Cheyenne O'Donnell, Miss Greater Waterbury 2012 Colleen Ward, Miss Mountain Laurel 2012 Alexa Farrell and Miss North Haven 2011 Danielle Trusch.
To make the competition more entertaining, there will be bumpers on the gutters of their lane.
Also, a team of state representatives is being formed by Rep. Rob Sampson, R-Wolcott. His team will take on a secondary team of pageant winners.
Spectators are encouraged to attend. Anyone who wants to bowl alongside the mayors and crowns should reserve a lane in advance. Foursomes are preferred. To register, call Wolcott Lanes at 203-879-1469.
Game proceeds will go toward buying Kongs and Nylabone chew toys for dogs living in municipal pounds in the Waterbury and Bristol areas.
"These dogs sit there bored all the time," said Joe Ouimet, master of the Wolcott Grange. "Give them a Kong or Nylabone and it helps pass the time and ultimately makes them more adoptable because they're not as stressed out."
The event is sponsored by Crowns Helping Pounds, a subcommittee of the Wolcott Grange, No. 173. |
