JANUARY 20, 2013 -- Things went royally well at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party held during the Winter Farmers’ Market at Norfield Grange on Jan. 12.
The event brought out 35 tea aficionados wearing a wide variety of hats, from vintage to homemade, for an afternoon of tea tasting and lovely fare to accompany the tea.
The four teas provided by the Loose Leaf Tea Co. (apricot, Earl Grey, raspberry, and vanilla chai) were paired with cream, sugar, and finger sandwiches and baked goods, including scones, sugar cookies, divinity, macaroons, and pastries.
The group was seated at tables on the Grange porch and listened intently to Ewa Ojoravska, a grange member and tea etiquette consultant and sommelier who designed custom booklets for the event for each of the participants to take home.
Awards — a bag of their favorite tea — were given to four lucky hat contest winners: Lilliana Attra (children’s category), Clare Pernice (adult female winner), Lexi Gazy of Gazy Brothers Farm, a market vendor (best handmade hat — featuring a “blooming beet plant”), and Roland Poirier (adult male winner and a Granger wearing a fez).
