SEPTEMBER 2, 2012 -- Our Grange voted to take over the Plainfield “Relay for Life” food booth for the future...a huge volunteer commitment-NOT a fundraiser! We will work throughout the year securing donations to prepare for June 2013-when we serve several hundred wonderful people who walk for cancer research!
We will hold our second annual benefit for the Home For Homeless Veterans in Jewett City, CT. This will be October 13th and will be a Roast Beef Supper.
We ended our 30th annual Fair with a successful Blueberry Supper! Thanks to all who helped!
We were glad to be able to assist Richmond Grange, RI, with their “Shaved Steak+” Booth at Washington County Fair. We sent crews that worked the end shifts on Friday & Saturday of their August Fair. Special thanks to David and Susan Griffiths; Link and Jan Cooper; Betsy & Katie Molodich; June Bonner and Janet Hawkins for their participation in this! Several of our members & Juniors exhibit at this Fair and this year, Clifford Gervais, worked three full days volunteering where needed. This Fair is sponsored by Washington County Pomona Grange and is just a short distance from Ekonk!
Our Awards Luncheon was a huge success! Congratulations to all recipients and thanks to those who prepared the delicious meal! Coming the farthest was Edith Remington, who is also active in Punta Gorda Grange in Florida!
Edith walked down memory lane with her lifelong friend, Esther Jalkanen, and they each received a 75 year certificate, presented by Russell Gray, who they both watched grow up! Russell then drove to the Plainfield home of Doris Frink and there presented her with her 75 year certificate. These three ladies joined Ekonk together as young women and have maintained not only Grange membership, but their friendship as well! I wonder if this is a record: three 75 year certficates from members who joined the same Grange on the same day???
We had a Junior & Subordinate Grange Exhibit at Woodstock Fair.
J.Allen Cameron was presented a Past Master’s jewel from his father. He was presented the pin that had belonged to Elmer Tanner. It was noted that Jody (Cameron) also has his Grandmother’s Past Master’s pin, but this would have been too feminine for J. Allen. Katie Molodich was Installed, escorted by her father, Mike. A large crowd watched Installation, including many of Katie’s family. Katie is a third generation Ekonk President! We look forward to another great year at Ekonk; visit us anytime!
