AUGUST 16, 2012 -- Everyone will have a chance to tour the fields and facilities at 12 farms in Granby on Open Farm Day, Saturday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Check out fields and facilities not usually open to the public; perch on a tractor; meet ponies, goats, cows, alpacas, chickens, pigs, and ducks; take a wagon or pony ride; sample apples or a new red wine; watch a sheep shearing or a horse clinic; see how to make a garlic braid; learn some tips for cooking with local produce; inspect the prize-worthy entries at the local Grange.
Admission is free to all farms, demonstrations, and tours. A very few activities at the stops do have a fee, such as the corn maze at House of Hayes and the Granby Grange's barbecue chicken dinner.
Sponsored by the Granby Agricultural Commission, and supported by sponsors, including Farm Credit East, United Bank, the Center Spirit Shop, and the Law Office of Jason Bogli, LLC. For the map of participating farms, schedule, and more details go to the Open Farm Day page at the GranbyAg.org website. |
