Ekonk Community Grange August News Update

By Sue Gray

  AUGUST 3, 2012 --

One of our active youth has stepped up to the plate to rebuild the Grange pavilion, which was the subject of discussion at the previous two meetings:

Chris Sebastian offered to make this his Eagle Scout project and after verifying that all work was covered by insurance, he has been given the “green light”!

We voted to have Ekonk Grange t-shirts and hats made.  It has been several years since we did this.  We also voted to take on a MAJOR new Community Service project: we will prepare and serve all of the food for the annual Plainfield Relay for Life! This is a two day event and all monies made from the sale of our food will be donated to Relay for Life (it is NOT a fundraiser for the Grange)!  The committee in charge is David Griffiths, Link Cooper and Jody Cameron.  Congratulations to this year’s Scholarship winners:  Brandi Hawkins and our President-elect, Katie Molodich!

By the time you read this, our young people will be back from the Northeast Youth Conference where they represented CT in the Drill competition.  The girls received their Scholarships at our Awards Luncheon where an amazing 705 years of Grange service certificates were presented to 12 dedicated Granges, including THREE 75 year certificates to:  Doris I. Frink, Esther Jalkanen and Edith Remington.  Sister Remington travelled all the way from her Florida home to receive this certificate; she is very active in the Grange in Florida too!

Looking ahead: plan to enjoy our “Blueberry” Supper, starting at 5pm on the day of our 30th annual Fair: Sat., August 11th!   Visit us anytime!

Aug. 6: “The Happy Wanderer”  Mtg/Prog. 7:30pm

Aug. 11: 30th Annual Fair 9-2

Aug. 11: “Blueberry Supper” 5pm-
