| JULY 25, 2012 -- Games such as the corn hole game, kick ball and softball were enjoyed as the Connecticut and Rhode Island State Granges co-hosted an Old-Fashioned Grange Picnic held on Saturday, July 21, 2012.
More than 100 people from across both states made the trek to North Stonington Community Grange Hall and Fairgrounds in North Stonington, Connecticut to enjoy a day of good food, fun and fellowship. Entertainment was provided by the Rhode Island Rednecks, a country-western band from West Warwick, RI. It was one of the highlights of the day, which included the old-fashioned picnic activities. This is the second annual combined picnic hosted by the two State Granges.
Jody Cameron, Connecticut State Grange President, stressed the benefits of Grange members not only working together but playing together "Sometimes you need to stop and enjoy each others company," he said. "This event is just that, a social time for our members to come together and visit. No meetings, no lectures, no workshop. Just good old fashioned visiting, great food and field day style games. Who could ask for more?"
Rhode Island State Grange President Stephen Logan agreed. "There is nothing better than spending an afternoon with friends, relaxing, playing games and of course the food! There are no boundaries when it comes to fun and fellowship."
Both State Grange Presidents and their members look forward to the third annual picnic - to be held next summer in Rhode Island.
With approximately 240,000 members in nearly 3000 local and state chapters across forty states, the Grange has nearly 60 Community Grange chapters across Connecticut. There are 21 Community Granges in Rhode Island. These local Granges are committed to bettering their communities through service projects, agricultural and legislative initiatives and family orientated activities.
