Around The Grange
Winchester Grange July Musings

By Todd Gelineau, Winchester Grange President

  JULY 8, 2012 --

June has come and gone and with it our annual Strawberry Festival held on Father’s Day.  We were happy to have the new Laurel Queen, Bethany Scott, a senior at NW Regional High School with us for the entire festival along with two of her court members.  It has become a tradition in recent years for the girls (if not just the Queen) to serve the berries and cream in their crowns and sashes.  The Strawberry Festival is  the official first appearance of the Queen following crowning the weekend before during the Laurel Festival.

By the time Grange members were able to sit down and enjoy their own servings of shortcake, we had served well over 400 people with a continuous line stretching from the serving table, through the dining room, up the stairs, down the front walk and to the street!

Two new members joined the Grange through the Obligation Ceremony held at the June 11 meeting.  The newest member is Billy Latulipe, taking the obligation with Jonathan Warner.  This brings our total to 6 new members this spring along with 5 from last year for a total of 11 new members in just over a year.  Keep up the good work.
