APRIL 29, 2012 -- Central Pomona Grange held a tag sale at Meriden Grange Hall, 540 Broad Street, Meriden, CT. This was open to the public. In connection with the Connecticut State Grange Social Connection Committee, tag sales were held at four other locations around the state. These were put on by: Quinebaug, Mountain County, New Haven County, and Excelsior Pomona Granges. Proceeds from the tag sales will benefit the National Liver Foundation. The event was held from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Items were donated from Grange members associated with their respective district, or Pomona Granges. These tag sales coincided with the month of April being National Grange Month. Maryanne Harrison, a member of Meriden Grange was in charge of the tag sale.
A Chili Cook-off was held for Grange members only. Five entries were accepted. Michael Relyea, Central Pomona Vice-President won the contest. The chili was sold during the remainder of the event. Money from the chili, refreshments was added to the tag sale profits. These proceeds were sent to the National Liver Foundation. The total proceeds collected for the Liver Foundation was over $110.
Several Central Pomona Officers had their own tables at the tag sale. Family Activities Chairman, Martha Trask had a bake sale table. Gatekeeper, Murray Newton sold Christmas decorations, miniature pewter figurines, and scrollwork decorations. Murray also demonstrated his scrollwork talents throughout the day's events. |
