MARCH 18, 2012 -- Hot on the heels of the movie awards season, Cannon Grange will celebrate one of old Hollywood's biggest stars: Buster Keaton.
Best known for his silent films in which his trademark was physical comedy with a stoic, deadpan expression, Keaton was a favorite with audiences of all ages.
The grange will present a double feature of two Keaton classics — 1921's The Haunted House and the 1925 comedy Seven Chances — on Saturday evening, March 24, at 7:30.
To add to the atmosphere, silent film historian and pianist John Mucci will play an original live score accompaniment on the grange's early 1900-vintage piano. A member of Cannon Grange, he has been accompanying silent films since 1972, and has been acclaimed as "bringing the silents back to life" and providing "hair-raising experiences" during the many chase scenes to delighted audiences.
Cannon Grange has become well known for its silent movie nights, according to grange president Don Offinger. "We're now known as the venue for silent movies in town, and it has the high level of popularity as does our annual summer ag fair," he said. "We get people emailing and calling asking when they will be."
Admission on March 24 is $8 per person, $15 for two people, and $5 for students through 12th grade. Refreshments will be available.
Cannon Grange Hall is at 25 Cannon Road.
