Beacon Grangers remember Alice Remeika

Mrs. Alice (Balch) Remeika, 83, passed away on Thursday morning, Jan. 26, 2012. She was the widow of Joseph G. Remeika Sr.

Mrs. Remeika was born Aug. 23, 1928, in Morris, daughter of the late Arthur H. and Edith Mae (Woodward) Balch. Alice had worked at Seth Thomas Clock in Thomaston and then on the family farm for many years. She had been an active member of the Beacon Grange in Northfield, and was a former member of Northfield Congregational Church.

She is survived by three sons, Joseph G. Remeika Jr. of Columbus, Mo., Alan E. Remeika of Litchfield, and Ronald E. Remeika of Northfield; two daughters, Mary Jane Johnson of Woodbury, and Karen Jones of Torrington; 11 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Frank E. Balch.

Arrangements: Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at the Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High St., Thomaston, with the Rev. Kimberly Wadhams officiating. Burial will be in the spring.
