DECEMBER 16, 2011 -- Westonites can learn all about cooking homegrown Connecticut meals on Saturday when Chef Emily Brooks comes to the Winter Farmer’s Market at the Norfield Grange.
Brooks will sign copies of her cookbook, “Connecticut Farmer & Feast,” which introduces readers to Connecticut homegrown foods and farmers. She will also share stories about the state’s rich farming history as well as recipes.
Brooks is the founder of the Edibles Advocate Alliance, which offers consulting and support services to grass roots and socially innovative organizations. She is also the creator of Buy Local Connecticut, an initiative that spreads the word about local farming and farm preservation. She is a regular local food and sustainability expert on National Public Radio.
Westonites can also enter to win eight 1¼ pound fresh Maine lobsters for the holidays. The lobsters will be donated by Pemaquid Seafood. Residents can purchase raffle tickets for $1 and winners will be announced at the close of the market at 2 p.m.
Brooks will be at the market from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The event is free to the public. The Norfield Grange is located at 12 Goodhill Road. |
