| DECEMBER 8, 2011 -- A warning to all the parents in Weston: Your kids just might want a goat for Christmas.
Saturday at the Norfield Grange, kids will have the opportunity to meet Myrtle, a Nubian dairy goat from The Butterfield Farm in East Granby. But Myrtle isn’t your typical dairy goat. She just doesn’t give milk, she loves to give kisses and pose for pictures, too.
Two year-old Myrtle will be on hand at the Grange’s Winter Farmer’s Market along with farmers Michael Hearl and Tara Bryson, who run Butterfield Farm. The farm has over 120 animals, which help produce cheese, yogurt and goat’s milk bath and body care items that are only sold locally to the community.
Hearl and Bryson said that besides hamming it up with the kids, they hope Myrtle teaches children the importance giving back to the community and treating animals with respect. "Our farm philosophy is to support the local community and treat all our animals with respect. We are thankful to those who have helped us and are committed to giving back to the community every chance we get. We look forward to teaching the community about goat dairy farming this weekend,” the two said in a statement.
Myrtle will be at the farmer's market this Saturday, December 10th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. giving hugs and taking pictures with her fans.
