Around The Grange
Stonington Grange was Clowning Around

By Jeff Barnes

  SEPTEMBER 4, 2011 --

We have really done some “Clowning Around” this summer. Stonington Grange member CA Duke and Bob Stika, both volunteer clowns in the Masonic Order, instructed us in the art of creating balloon sculptures. Although we all tried very hard to succeed, not one other person could ever blow up these special balloons – they are that much heavier than the toy balloons we are used to. But no problem for these two pros. By closing time the hall was decorated with dogs, flowers and hearts and other balloon art. A real fun night and we had some good laughs.

Our annual picnic was very well attended. We thank Vern Bailey for cooking the hot dogs and homburgs over a real charcoal fire. During the business meeting which followed we welcomed Jack and “Shirley Lawson on their 47th annual visit to our Grange. Also Mark Howard and Jennifer Lawson of RI came along to join in the fun. This year was special as Jack and Shirley applied for affiliate membership in Stonington Grange. We are thrilled to have them as members of our Grange and they always bring plenty of ice cream.

After the meeting we played a rousing game of “Picnic Bingo”, provided by Debbie Barnes. The game went well into the evening and many picnic supply prizes were won.

We voted to have a special fun night at our August meeting. We had a movie and popcorn festival after the business meeting. This summer we are hosting a peanut butter and jelly drive to be donated to the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center.

Our program on September 9th is aptly titled, “School Daze”, Tanya Sylvestre in charge.
