MARCH 3, 2011 -- As editor of the Connecticut Granger, I have had to write about Marion and arrange the photo collection on page 2 of the March issue. Going through the many pictures and thinking about the many offices and jobs she has held in the Grange through the years it is truly amazing how she could be so active and have such a profound impact on so many levels of the Order. While she may have lived on West St. in Winchester Center, her home was just as much the beloved Winchester Grange Hall where she cooked countless dinners, directed scores of concerts, presented Lecturer’s programs and served as Winchester’s secretary for over 50 years. Her legacy to Winchester Grange is tremendous and we were so very fortunate to have her call Winchester home!
Marion’s Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 6 at the Winchester Center Congregational Church, just across the green from the Grange hall beginning at 2 P.M. A reception will follow the service at the Grange. Our thanks go to the Winchester Grange Ladies Third Degree Team for so graciously offering to provide the refreshments for the reception with the assistance of the CWA. Our thanks also go to the Winchester Center Vol. Fire Dept. for helping with the arrangements for parking around the Hall. With the abundance of snow, it will be a challenge, but Chief and Grange member Peter Marchand assured me that he will have it all under control. Thank you, Peter! |
