| DECEMBER 19, 2008 -- Barbara English, 87, died Dec. 15, 2008. She was the loving wife of Carl S. English, who died in 1983.
Born Aug. 18, 1921, in Winchester, she was the daughter of the late Olive (Beach) and Clarence H. Beecher.
Mrs. English was a lifelong member of the Winchester Congregational Church. She was also a member of the Winchester Grange 74 for more than 70 years, where she was a pianist and lecturer for many years. She also served as the pianist of Mountain County Pomona Grange, and of the Connecticut State Grange. She enjoyed playing the piano for local nursing homes as well.
She is survived by her three daughters, Julie Sullivan and her husband, Robert, of Pleasant Valley, Ramona Fassio and her husband, Mario, of Torrington and Barbara Silverio of Winsted; two brothers, Ellworth Beecher of Winchester Center and Henry Beecher of Torrington; two sisters, Arline Cote of Winsted and Joan DellaValle of Winsted; grandchildren Terri Fassio, Jerold Silverio Jr. and Jean Lepore; great-grandchildren Anthony Silverio, Alissa Silverio and Samantha Lepore; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Jerold Silverio; and two brothers, Kingsley Beecher and Donald Beecher.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. at Winchester Congregational Church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, Winsted, has care of the arrangements.
